India's largest power producer NTPC Ltd has planned to construct a 2,640 MW power plant at Barethi in Chattarpur District of Madhya Pradesh state. The cost of this project is estimated to be Rs 18,000 crore. The foundation stone of this project was laid by Union Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The project comprises coal based power plant with four units of 660 MW each. The coal linkage is tied up from Banai coal block and water from proposed Majhgaon Dam and Shyamari project.The commissioning is targeted in 13th plan. Around 2,841 acre of land will be required for this project. 50 per cent of the power generated will be supplied to Madhya Pradesh.
