India largest power producer NTPC plans to start coal production from Pakri-Barwadih mine in Jharkhand this year as it is in advance stage of implementation. The work on three more blocks is expected in the next two years. In March, NTPC was reallotted five coal blocks that were cancelled last year by the Supreme Court. The five coal blocks were reallotted to NTPC in Marc blocks include Chatti-Bariatu, Chatti-Bariatu (South) and Kerandari in Jharkhand, Dulanga in Odisha and Talaipalli in Chhattisgarh. NTPC Chairman & Managing Director A K Jha is optimistic of starting coal production in another three mines in the next two years.
The company is likely to appoint a mine developer-cum-operator (MDO) for its Pakri-Barwadih mine located in Jharkhand. The contract is worth Rs 23,000 crore.
