Rooftop solar energy panel over 10,000 houses

The Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation has recently approved fitting of roof top solar energy panel over 10,000 houses belonging to Economically Weaker Sections in the state of Tamil Nadu. The project cost is estimated to be Rs 253 crore and would be implemented under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana (Urban). The decision was taken at an Inter-Ministerial Central Sanctioning & Monitoring Committee (CSMC) chaired by Dr.Nandita Chatterjee, Secretary (HUPA). The committee has approved construction of 7,204 houses under Affordable Housing in Partnership component of PMAY (Urban) in 9 cities and towns at a total cost of Rs 572 crore. The central assistance will be Rs.1.50 lakh per house and the rest will be borne by the state government and beneficiaries.
