Abhijit Lunkad, CEO, Birla Shakti Concrete shares his views with Sandeep Sharma about USP of Birla Shakti Ready Mix Concrete, RMC market shaping up in India, steps needed to boost the Cement sector growth…Edited excerpts…

What's the USP of Birla Shakti Ready Mix Concrete vis-a-vis the existing products available in the market?
At Birla Shakti Concrete, we call ourselves ‘future ready’ and being ahead of the technology curve remains our critical USP in the market.

As the real estate and infrastructure segment evolves against the backdrop of high rises, new-age construction technologies and smart cities, the need for large and continuous batches of high performance concrete of consistent quality is the need of the hour.

We produce the entire range of market-leading & high performance concrete mixes from M7.5 to M110 grades (including M10 pumpable concrete), which meet the stringent BIS Code specifications.

In fact our concrete mixes have consistently outperformed the BIS Code specs.

Plus we commit to our customers 100% guarantee on the quality as well as on time delivery of concrete.

This is possible because we have set-up India’s largest fully automated &computer-aided design manufacturing facility with Putzmeister Truck mounted Moli Pumps, Putzmeister Boom Placer, a state of the art concrete testing lab, and single largest fleet of Liebherr Transit Mixers mounted on AMW vehicles. Plus each vehicle is equipped with GPS tracking systems to ensure our commitment to on-time delivery.

We are well positioned to partner our customers to pilot new ways of creating sustainable and innovative building solutions.

How is the RMC market shaping up in India?
Though the Ready mix concrete business in India is still in its nascent stage, we expect the market to grow by 20%. With the real estate sector evolving, the use of new age construction techniques, conformity to BS norms and the trend of third party audits is pushing the demand for consistent and superior quality concrete which only RMC can cater to. Today there is greater awareness regarding the advantages of going in for RMC vs. site mix concrete. Plus with time, concrete mix designs are going to become more complex and engineered to suit specialized applications. And this is going to further spur the demand for RMC.

What needs to be done by the Government of India to boost Cement sector growth?
I think increased infrastructure spending including affordable housing, concretization of roads, irrigation projects, assured supply of coal, lower tax rates, and better freight infrastructure can put the cement industry back on a bullish growth path. Also the thrust on BIS specs compliances &focus on Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) can further lead to the evolution of the cement industry in India.
