Kozhikode runway expansion project

The wide-bodied aircraft are not permitted at the Calicut International Airport. The  temporary reinstatement of permission to operate wide-bodied aircraft was sought to  facilitate Haj pilgrims. Ministry of Civil Aviation and Director General of Civil Aviation  (DGCA) have categorically stated to complete the airport runway expansion first so as to  allow wide-bodied aircraft services.  The current runway is of 2,850 metre and is ideal for  mid-sized aircraft. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has been proposing that the runway be  expanded to 3,627 metre.
