PGCIL to electrify 1,000 km of rail track on a pilot
Railways aims to electrify 35,000 km of un-electrified lines and save on crude bill and ensure faster movement of trains. The Ministry of Power is looking forward to assign electrification of 1,000 of rail track on a pilot basis to Power Grid Corp (PGCIL). The first phase of the project would cover 16,000 km of un-electrified lines across the country. The electrification is likely to save Rs 8,000 crore for the railways per annum.
