Cabinet approves replacement of Major Port Trust Act
The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has recently cleared the proposal of Ministry of Shipping to replace the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963 by the Major Port Authorities Bill, 2016. The new act is likely to empower the Major Ports to work efficiently by taking timely decision about the modernisation and upgradation. The proposed bill aims to decentralise decision making and infuse professionalism in the port governance thereby paving way for improved transparency it its operations.
