Local administration gears up to decongest Chennai

The state minister for local administration S.P. Velumani and transport minister Vijaya Bhaskar informed the Tamil Nadu assembly about the initiatives taken to decongest Chennai city. As part of the decongestion drive 100 new mini bus would be procured, separate lanes for buses and two wheelers would be demarcated, broad pavements to be constructed and encourage electric cars in Chennai. The modern toilets and clean drinking water facilities would come up at Pondy Bazaar in T Nagar. To sort out the parking issue, a six-storied vehicle parking complex will be constructed at the junction of Thyagaraya Road and Thanigaachalam road in an area of 1,488 square metre accommodating 200 four wheelers and 500 two-wheelers
