Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport at Leh would be the highest commercial airport in the country. The final designs of the airport have been submitted and approved. The proposed terminal building would be sustainable and environment friendly. It would come up 3,256 metre above mean sea level and cover 16,500 sq mtr. Electric load will be reduced by 60% with the use of Solar photovoltaic cell on the roof. The building would incorporate green features like water recylcling, cavity walls for thermal insulation and multi-function heat pump air-cooled chillers. The current terminal has reached a saturation point with more than 14% increase in passengers in the last five years. The expansion and revamp of the Leh airport is likely to meet the traffic rise.
