A green energy project was launched in Government Higher Secondary School at Kandanchavadi in Chennai by Group Legrand India. The company installed solar panels in the school under its CSR initiative. The solar panels will help the school save its electricity bill.

Even as the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) aka Mahavitaran is preparing to install smart prepaid meters in Pune and across Maharashtra in the coming days, the company has asked for an ‘automatic power disconnection facility’ in these meters for consumers who fail to pay electricity bills on time.

In a first, Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has granted permission for the Dindigul-based Dollar Industries to set up four Mega Watt hour (MWhr) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

Madurai corporation proposes to set up a plant that can convert municipal solid waste into torrefied (dried and environment friendly) charcoal at Vellaikal dumpyard. Torrefied charcoal is similar to natural coal and can be blended with fuel in thermal power plants to produce electricity.

The Union Ministry of Power has come out with draft guidelines on pumped hydro storage projects, announced in the recent Union Budget, with a view to generate over 18 gigawatt (GW) of electricity to bring stability to grids and meet the peaking power demand by 2032.

The Andhra Pradesh government will install as many as 18 lakh smart meters on farm electric motors within a year, including spending ?4,000 core to procure allied material. The state will follow the guidelines issued by the Central Government and Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

A 16-hour power outage in Wagholi last week prompted Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) officials to provide two new substations for smooth power supply in the area. The 22/11 KV Gera substation was approved for consumers in Wagholi and will be functional in the next six months.
