The modernisation of Agartala airport is planned and project has been sent to AAI board for approvals. The plan involves upgrading of the runway and aprons, construction of six aerobridges, three elevators and two escalators besides walkways to connect the international arrival and departure levels. The completion is targeted in 36 months. Post completion, the airport would be able to handle 1,000 passengers per hour.
