Pannur and Parandur approved for Chennais second airport

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has shortlisted two sites - Pannur and Parandu - to build the second airport in Chennai and has referred them to the state government. The ministry shortlisted two sites out of the four sites suggested by the Tamil Nadu government. The state government had shortlisted Parandur, Pannur, Tiruporur and Padalam as four sites for the second airport. Parandur is around 70km and Pannur is 60km from Chennai. They are near Sriperumbudur on the Chennai-Bengaluru route. More studies, including technical studies, will be undertaken after the state government selects a final location.

Rs 319 crore released for expanding Mysuru airport runway

The state government has released Rs. 319.13 crore for expansion of Mysuru airport runway. The Chief Minister Basavaraja Bommai announced the expansion project during state budget recently. The Airport is located at Mandakalli on the outskirts of the city and is spread over 490 acres. The land will be acquired by the State Government and it will be handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

State Cabinet gives approval for Raichur airport project

The State Cabinet gave administrative approval for the Detailed Project Report for the greenfield domestic airport to be built in Raichur at a cost of Rs 185.57 crore. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai had proposed the new airport in the 2022-23 budget presented earlier this month.

Space-add expansion plan for Bagdogra airport

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has taken up the task to expand the existing terminal building at Bagdogra airport to accommodate its passengers until a new and more spacious building comes up at the airport. The Union civil aviation ministry has sanctioned a sum of Rs 11.26 crore for the project to expand the floor area of terminal building of the second-most important airport of Bengal after the one in Calcutta. This work will be done in three phases. The current building, sources said, is spread over around 8,000 square metres or 86,000 square feet. Under the expansion plan, another 24,000 square feet will be added to the building. A new terminal building that would come up in due course with a floor area of 1 lakh square metres or 10 lakh square feet to handle the surging passenger traffic. There is a plan to spend around Rs 600 crore for the work (of the new terminal building). However, it would take at least three to four years.

Investments worth Rs 36,000 crore have been planned for development of greenfield airports under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The PPP airports at Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru are undertaking major expansion projects of around Rs 30,000 crore by 2025.

Chennai airport gets 65 metre bridge linking terminals

The construction of a bridge linking a Multi Level Car Parking facility (MLCP) with the domestic and international departure terminals in Chennai will be completed soon. The 65-metre long bridge connects the East and West tower of the MLCP with the departure driveway at Chennai Airport Modernisation Phase II.

Rs.645 crore Greenfield Airport approved for Arunachal Pradesh

Airports Authority of India has undertaken the work of constructing a Greenfield Airport in Hollongi, 15 km from Itanagar considering the importance of air connectivity to the capital city. With an estimated cost of Rs 645 crore, the project includes the development work that is construction of airport pavements, air side work, terminal Building and city side works.
