Adilabad in Telangana is finally set to get an airport, which would be one of the six airports proposed to be constructed in the state. AAI officials have inspected the land and other aspects required to set up the airport. There are no major obstacles and most of the land for the facility has already been acquired.

The expansion of Mysuru airport has been held up due to delay in land acquisition, though farmers are keen to strike a deal with the government. Airports Authority of India officials said the immediate land requirement is about 115 acres, though nearly 187 acres will be needed to complete the entire project.

With construction work on in full swing, the greenfield airport at Hirasar near Rajkot is expected to begin operations by March 2023. The airport is spread over 1,032 hectares and is around 30 km from the city on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway.

Construction work of the new integrated terminal building at Pune Airport, which is coming up at an investment of Rs. 475 crore, is expected to be completed by August next year, with 60 per cent of the work completed so far. The new building will have five boarding bridges and 34 check-in counters.

The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa is to get a facelift within one year. The development projects in pipeline for the airport’s revamp include construction of eight additional parking bays, new technical block and air traffic control (ATC) tower, aircraft hangar, new fire station and two passenger boarding bridges.

Nearly Rs. 25,000 crore will be spent on the growth and development of civil aviation in the next four to five years. The Airports Authority of India has taken up the programme for expansion and modification of existing terminals, new terminals, expansion or strengthening of existing runways, aprons, Airport Navigation Services, etc.
