A land purchase committee under Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has approved the expansion and renovation of Karnal airport. The existing airstrip of the airport will be expanded from 3, 000 ft to 5, 000 ft. Part of the land for the project belongs to the state government while the rest is being acquired.

The new terminal building at Adampur Airport in Punjabs Jalandhar is expected to be ready by mid-2021. With a total built-up area of 6,000 sq m and canopy area of 1,920 sq m, the new terminal has been designed to process up to 300 passengers at a time.

A new integrated domestic terminal will come up at Rajahmundry airport as part of its expansion and upgradation plans. The new building, which will cost of Rs. 135 crore, will have all modern facilities including aero bridges and will be able to handle 1,400 passengers (700 arrivals and 700 departures) at a time.

The Andhra Pradesh government has accorded administrative sanction of Rs. 112.75 crore to resolve issues related to the development and expansion of Gannavaram Airport near Vijayawada. While Rs 57.20 crore will be spent on shifting houses from affected villages, Rs 42.94 crore will be for payment of annuity.

Bokaro strip, being prepared at a cost of Rs. 46 crore, is ready to host civilian flights. Bokaro airport presently manages non-scheduled flights. Once civil operations start it will connect the steel city to Patna and Kolkata under the RCS-UDAN scheme.

Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi memorial Airport, Chakeri is likely to get its new terminal building in June next year. The terminal, being constructed in an area of 600 sq m, will have a capacity to accommodate 300 passengers.

After GMR’s bid to take over Nagpur airport was cancelled, there are plans to appoint a fresh private partner for the airport on per-passenger revenue sharing model. This is in line with the latest method adopted by Airports Authority of India (AAI) for privatising the airports it owns.

The Airports Authority of India Ltd has invited bids to set up a 330 kWp grid-connected solar power system at Deoghar Airport in Jharkhand. The plant is to be installed on the rooftop and car parking of the airport. The project is estimated at Rs. 1.73 crore and the time for completion is four months.

Air connectivity in Uttar Pradesh has got another boost with the Centre and the state government joining hands to expedite construction of the Myorpur airport in Sonbhadra under the regional connectivity scheme. The Environment Ministry recently gave in-principle approval to the conversion of land use of over 0.6 hectares of forest land.
