The Airports Authority of India plans to expand the present airport terminal building so that it is capable of handling at least 3,450 passengers during peak hours. The Rs. 145-crore project was supposed to be completed by 2022.

AAI has signed a memorandum of understanding with a subsidiary of the National Thermal Power Corp to set up solar power plants at its airports to encourage electric vehicles. For this, NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) will be provided adequate land and rooftop space free of cost at identified AAI airports.

The new integrated terminal building being constructed at Pune airport in Maharashtra by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with an investment of Rs. 475 crore is expected to be completed by March 2022. The new terminal will be able to process 2,300 passengers (1,700 domestic and 600 international) during peak hours.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has identified and approved 78 new routes under the first phase of Ude Deshka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) 4.0. Seventy-eight new routes have been approved and the Airports Authority of India, the implementing agency, is in the process of awarding them to selected airline operators (SAOs).

The Shivamogga airport project is expected to be completed by the end of next year and start commercial operations by February 2022. The Airports Authority of India had planned to construct a 2,050-metre runway, but following expert advice, it is being extended to 3,200 metres to accommodate wide bodied aircraft.

The new integrated passenger terminal building of the Airports Authority of India-run Trichy airport in Tamil Nadu, with enhanced passenger handling capacity, will be functional from March 2022. The expansion work is being carried out at an investment of Rs. 951.28 crore.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to upgrade runways at seven airports across the country by March 2022. These airports are at Jammu (J&K), Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh), Barapani (Meghalaya), Kadapa (Andhra Pradesh), Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) and Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu).

AAI has invested over Rs 50 crore in a phased manner to create aviation infrastructure in Jalgaon, which has the second biggest airport in North Maharashtra after Nashik. The AAI has provided Jalgaon airport with crash firefighting equipment imported from Austria and two new baggage X-Ray scanning machines.

The expansion work at Kadapa Airport would be completed by March next year. AAI is overseeing the expansion of existing runways, taxiways and aprons at the airport with an estimated cost of Rs. 94 crores.
