The ministry of railways is going full steam ahead with its plans to redevelop and modernise nearly 1,300 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat scheme, and will earmark Rs 13,000 crore from its FY24 capex outlay for this project, up 240 per cent year-on-year.

The Rs 365 crore Katpadi Railway junction redevelopment project will be implemented on a total area of around 86 acres and a built-up area of 30,000 sq.m. The project aims to give the station a facelift with world-class passenger amenities.

With the aim of speeding up station redevelopment programme, Indian Railways has floated tenders worth Rs 5,000 crore for 14 stations on EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) mode.

With redevelopment of railway stations across India a priority for Ministry of Railways, work on redevelopment of 123 stations is in progress. Out of this, IRSDC is working on 63 stations and RLDA is working on 60 stations. As per current estimates, total investment needed is about Rs. 50,000 crore.

The ministry plans construction of Aligarh-Harduaganj railway flyover with a length of 22 km, involving an investment of Rs. 1,285 crore. A branch line of Bareilly-Aligarh terminates at Aligarh Junction Station, making it the busiest section of Indian Railways.

The government has brought Arunachal Pradesh on the railway map with India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge - the 4.94-km long Bogibeel bridge over Brahmaputra. This project also aims at converting all metre gauge tracks in the North-eastern states to broad gauge. The project is expected to be completed by December 2024.
