The Union Ministry has allocated around Rs. 1,000 crore for the construction of a four/six-lane road along National Highway 31 that connects the northwest and northeast ends of Siliguri. The stretch passing through Darjeeling More, the principal entry point of the city, is a two-lane highway now and is one of the congested stretches of the national highway.

NHAI has awarded the contract to a Gujarat-based company, where, in the first phase of the 23 km stretch from Neraluru (Attebele)-Thorapalli Agraharam (in Krishnagiri) of NH 844 will be widened to four lanes and the project cost is estimated at Rs.1,320.73 crore.

The state government has announced Rs. 500 crore to acquire land along the coastal belt of Maharashtra, between Revas in Raigad and Redi in Sindhudurg, for the Mumbai-Goa coastal highway project.

The Central Government has sanctioned Rs. 2,500 crore for road construction in the state. Indore-Aidlabad section (203 km) of NH-347BG and Ujjain-Badnawar section (69 km) will be upgraded. Total road length will be 272 km.

The much-awaited Maduravoyal-Chennai Port elevated corridor project would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 5,770 crore. A memorandum of understanding would be signed between the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Navy, Chennai Port and the Tamil Nadu government.

Patna will also have ring roads and eight bypass roads will be constructed in the next five years to ease traffic load in various towns. The eight bypass roads to be constructed under the ‘Saat Nishchay (seven resolves)’ programme of the government will entail an expenditure of Rs. 143 crore, which has already been sanctioned.

NHAI said the detailed project report was being prepared for the 24.5 km long six-lane elevated corridor Tambaram and Chengalpattu, a project that is estimated to cost Rs. 3,309 crore.

The National Highways Authority of India has set July 2022 as the target for completing the Madurai-Natham fourway road project, including the elevated corridor for 7.3 km from Chokkikulam to Oomachikulam on New Natham Road.
