The Maharashtra government has proposed to set up a new international airport in order to reduce the heavy air traffic at Pune International Airport. The airport site at Purandar has been finalised and the administration has prepared various options for land acquisition.

MADC is undertaking the expansion of the Shirdi Airport’s terminal building capacity to cope with a rise in the passenger traffic. The tender for the construction of the new terminal building would be floated next month.

Chipi Airport at Sindhudurg district will be operational from May 1. The airport is being built by IRB Sindhudurg Airport Pvt. Ltd. on a (BOT) basis for the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). It is spread over 275 hectares and the runway is able to accommodate aircraft like the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.

The MADC needs to obtain the clearance from the ministry of environment and forests to finalise the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Purandar airport.

MADC is undertaking the immediate expansion of the Shirdi Airport’s terminal building capacity due to rise in the passenger traffic. This will complete in 5-6 months. The company has also floated tenders for the appointment of a consultant for the construction of a second terminal building at the airport.

The growth of aviation sector is critical to connecting people from distant places. The aviation sector not only promotes connectivity and tourism but create jobs as well.

Plans to expand the Nagpur airport in phases. The first phase of development will complete by 2022, the capacity will go up from 10 lakh to 40 lakh. Ernst & Young (E&Y) engaged by MADC has estimated that passenger volumes will touch 25 lakh in this year and likely to grow 15% year-on-year. The contract is likely to be awarded in 2-3 months.

Plans to set up a new airport at Purandar taluka. The ministry of defence (MoD) has given conditional clearance for the project.

Plans to undertake construction of the 4.5 km long and 60 metre wide second runway.at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, Nagpur. Essel Infraprojects, GMR, GVK, PNC Infratech and a consortium of Tata Realty and Tata Projects have been qualified to participate in the final bidding round.
