ECR has started the process of redeveloping five stations – Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Gaya Junction, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur and Singrauli – in public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) has been assigned the task to execute the plan as envisaged by the Railway Board.

SECR is taking another shot at laying a third line between Bilaspur to Nagpur. Indian Railways has now come up with a new formula wherein the project has been shortened to limit it to between Rajnandgaon to Kalumna, a distance of 228 km, in the first phase. Bilaspur Zone is single largest transporter of coal over Indian Railways.

The journey between Nagpur and Chhindwara could soon be completed in 2.5 hours. With safety inspection of last stretch of 20 km between Bhimalgondi-Bhandarkund completed, the decks have been cleared to throw open the 149 km broad gauge railway line between Itwari and Chhindwara under the South East Central Railway (SECR).

A bridge on the Nirmali–Saraigarh section of the ECR’s Samastipur division has been completed at a total cost of Rs. 561.02 crore. The distance of about 298 km between Nirmali and Saraigarh is being covered via the Darbhanga-Samastipur-Khagaria-Mansi-Saharsa route.

ECR has expedited track doubling work of about 38 km on the Samastipur-Darbhanga route under Samastipur division. It has completed the broad gauge (BG) track doubling work of 9 km between Darbhanga and Thalwara. The new line will be opened for passenger traffic after getting clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety.

The railways plan to undertake the remodelling of Muzaffarpur station in Bihar. The remodelling work comprises provision of platforms, stabling lines, goods reception and departure line towards KVC and dismantling of scissor and goods line no 06 & 07 and other miscellaneous works.

SECR has put the Bilaspur-Jharsuguda fourth railway line project on fast track .

The railways is undertaking the construction of approach roads of Rail bridge over Kosi river in Bihar. The completion is targeted in 10 months.
