The Ministry of Defence and defence public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) have signed a contract for procurement of Software Defined Radio Tactical (SDR-Tac) equipment worth over Rs. 1,000 crore The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and BEL plan to provide the latest SDR with security grading to the armed forces.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) under the Ministry of Defence has approved acquisition proposals worth Rs. 28,000 crore. Six of the seven acquisitions, amounting to Rs. 27,000 crore, would be sourced from Indian entities. The proposals for which Acceptance of Necessity was granted include weapons, platforms, equipment and systems.

The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract with Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML) for procuring 1,512 mine ploughs which will be fitted on T-90 tanks. The Rs. 557 crore deal is part of the `Make in India’ efforts in the defence sector and will have around 50 per cent indigenous content.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) have fixed the price of the Tejas Mark 1A light combat aircraft (LCA) at about Rs 310 crore per fighter. HAL is awaiting a formal contract, worth some Rs. 26,000 crore, for 83 Tejas LCAs that the Ministry of Defence has already green-lighted for purchase.

The Ministry of Defence approved the proposal to add four state-of-the-art warships for Navy fully equipped with the deadly BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles.

Reliance Defence and Engineering Department has got contract from Indian Coast Guard, Ministry of Defence for the design and construction of 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs).

Plans to construct railway lines along China border has been initiated by Ministry of Defence as strategic line. Ministry of Defence has identified four strategic lines along India-China border viz. (i) Missamari – Tenga – Tawang (378 Km.) (ii) Bilaspur – Manali – Leh (498 Km.) (iii) Pasighat – Tezu – Rupai (227 Km.) and (iv) North Lakhimpur - Bame (Along) – Silapathar (249 Km.).
