The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) will roll out the first phase of Aarey-Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) line of the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor in 2023. The MMRCL said it received all eight coaches of the metro train, manufactured in the Alstom Plant in Sri City of Andhra Pradesh.

The longest underground Metro line in Mumbai, one of the city’s most expensive transportation infrastructure projects, will finally be ready for commissioning in December 2023 after overcoming significant obstacles and a two-year delay. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) completed all the tunnelling work.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 250 crore for the Metro Line 3 project. It will be paid to Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation that is executing the project. This is the second tranche of the Rs 500 crore budgeted for the project in this financial year.

The work of casting roof slabs at Hutatma Chowk and Mumbai Central stations on the Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz) corridor has been completed. With this, the casting of slabs on six stations has been completed.

MMRC will submit its Metro III escalation cost of Rs. 10,000 crore to the state cabinet for approval. The cost has increased because of multiple factors as the project estimates were made with 2011 as the base year. Changes in station locations, land acquisition issues and Delhi’s strata were considered instead of basalt strata of the city.

The 33.5-km fully underground Metro-3 (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz), has been seriously affected by the coronavirus lockdown. While the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation was looking at completing tunnelling work by December 2020, lack of labour, machinery and disruptions in the supply chain will most likely delay work to beyond February 2021.

Engineering firms like Tata Projects, L&T, Capacite Infra and Shapoorji Pallonji have bid for construction of a rehabilitation building in Girgaon for MMRC. The 48-storey Girgaon redevelopment building (G3) will have 473 residential flats, 137 shops and 19 commercial offices.

MMRC has received its first lot of rail tracks which sailed to Mumbai Port from Yawata, Japan, dispatched by Mitsui & Co. Ltd. The arrival of the first lot of Head Hardened (HH) rail tracks – weighing 3,615 metric tonnes – is significant milestone for the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor.

Has issued a tender where the scope of work involves construction of residential-cum-commercial high-rise building at Girgaon (G3) on CS No. 1, 4/59 and 7/59 of Girgaon division for Rehabilitation of Metro Line-3 PAPs at Kalbadevi and Girgaon.
