The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has sanctioned 7,513 road-related works under its jurisdiction for the fiscal year 2022-23 at a staggering cost of Rs 19.47 billion.

The government has called tenders for two additional construction-and-demolition-waste recycling plants. They have further revealed that biomedical waste has increased due to the pandemic.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) proposed the construction of 15 new roads as part of the Strategic Road Development Program (SRDP). The civic body has sought an allocation of Rs 3,115 crore from the government in order to commence the construction of the proposed roads under phase-2 of the SRDP.

The GHMC will be required to spend around Rs 3,000 crore to dig its proposed 1.38-km tunnel under the KBR Park junction. After conducting a pre-feasibility study, civic body officials said that the corporation should spend about 15 times more towards land acquisition, digging the rocky terrain and to construct the tunnel 10 metres below the road surface. The GHMC officials decided to construct four flyovers at the KBR junction —at Jubilee Hills checkpost junction (level two) and at Road No. 45 junction (level one). The official said that only four of six skyways would be constructed. The corporation decided to construct flyovers at Maharaja Agrasen junction (Road No. 12) and Cancer Hospital junction (Road No. 10). The estimated cost to execute the skyways would be Rs 322.92 crore. Overall the corporation has to translocate 800 trees for the project. In case the tunnel is not dug, it has to translocate 270 trees on the 1.38 km stretch. A senior GHMC official, requesting anonymity, said that during the pre-feasibility test the corporation concluded that it involved an expenditure of Rs 3,000 crore to execute the project. There was a need to provide ventilation and emergency exits as a contingency plan. The latter implied that they had to acquire expensive lands opposite the park’s stretch. "For a tunnel to be viable it should be at least 5 km long. The KBR Park tunnel does meet any of the requirements, If constructed it could be the most expensive project in the city.

The GHMC has an ambitious plan to solve the traffic problems of the city. The project is expected to cost nearly Rs. 5000 crore. The real cost of the project can only be assessed after receiving a feasibility study report. The civic body has a plan to construct an underground tunnel road under KBR Park. The tunnel road will be constructed 100 feet (30 yards) below the ground without damaging the ecosystem of KBR Park. If the plan materializes, this tunnel road will be the second largest in the country. The civic body has recently issued a tender notification to review the feasibility of the project. The pre-bid meeting was attended by three bidders. One of them will be selected on the basis of their previous experience and qualification. They are expected to submit their formal bids by May 2. The 6.30 km tunnel road will connect Jubilee Hills road number 45 and Banjara Hills road number 12.

Hyderabad city to have countrys first-ever longest highway tunnel road soon i.e. from Jubilee Hills road no. 45 to road no. 12 junction of Banjara Hills for about 10 km. The tunnel road with four lane will pass through KBR park junction to NFCL junction, Punjagutta.

The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has started constructing Bairamalguda Left Hand Side (LHS) Flyover with a cost of Rs. 28.64 crore and LB Nagar Right Hand Side (RHS) underpass with a cost of Rs. 40 crore.

The State government is adopting a multi-pronged approach for River Musi rejuvenation, beautification and development with an estimated cost of Rs.16,634 crore. They are also taking up a SRDP second phase work with a cost of Rs.3,115 crore in all zones of GHMC.
