The consumption of electricity is on the rise due to the constant push from the Government of India towards infrastructure development and increased focus on accelerating the pace of industrial growth.

Piyush Goyal, Minister of State (IC) for Power, Coal, Mines New & Renewable Energy and Mines has recently informed the Lok Sabha that a total of 852 Solar PV based projects have been operational under Decentralized Distributed Generation (DDG) of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) implemented by Ministry of Power as on 31st January, 2017.

4497 new projects have been sanctioned in the country with the project cost of Rs. 42392.47 crore for various rural electrification works under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).

During the period April 2015 and 7th February, 2016, 5027 villages have been electrified till date. Around 13,425 villages remained to be electrified.

The government of Maharashtra has set an ambitious target of providing 19 lakh electric connections to houses located in the rural areas of the state by 2019. The project would be implemented under centrally funded Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).
