The Government has taken several steps to promote renewable energy, including wind energy, in the country. These, inter alia, include; permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100 per cent under the automatic route, waiver of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for inter-State sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by June 30, 2025, declaration of trajectory for Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) up to the year 2030.

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has given approvals to three power utility firms in Mumbai for procurement of 959 MW of renewable energy for city consumers. In the first order, it allowed BEST to procure 234 MW solar power from Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

In a major push to generate solar power based electricity in the city, the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society (Crest) will install rooftop solar power stations at seven locations in the city with aggregate capacity of 2250 kWp at Rs 13 crore.

India plans to invest Rs 2.8 trillion by 2030 in setting up an Interstate Transmission Network (ISTS) to evacuate renewable energy, said K Sreekant, Chairman and Managing Director of government-owned Powergrid Corporation of India (PGCIL).

BasavarajBommai, Chief Minister, Karnataka, said that there will be an investment of Rs 2 lakh crore in the state in the renewable energy sector. The investment will be more in the hydrogen sector and efforts will be made to make the fuel available at a much lower price.

India is planning to invest Rs 1.4 lakh crore by 2026-27 in setting up interstate transmission network (ISTS) for evacuation of renewable energy and a similar number till 2030. Rs 1.4 lakh crore is by 2026-27, beyond that it is still to be developed.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will expand its operations at its centre in Bengaluru, India, for more than 500 engineers. The facility with workspace of 76,000 sq ft is in the Electronic city phase 2 of Bengaluru.

The Karnataka government expects an investment of Rs 2.5 lakh crore in the renewable energy sector by 2023. The department plans to set up a 10,000 MW unit under a public-private partnership model to store the renewable energy produced.

Madhya Pradesh intends to invest Rs 15,000 crore by 2024 and Rs 50,000 crore by 2027 for renewable energy generation. The Madhya Pradesh Renewable Energy Policy 2022 says an investment of Rs 40,000 crore by 2024 and Rs 100,000 crore by 2027 has been planned in renewable energy equipment manufacturing.
