CIL is focussing on setting up 15 coal washeries by September, 2017.As of now Letters of assurance with regard to five washeries with an aggregate capacity of 34.5 MTPA have already been issued, three coal washeries are at the construction stage while tenders of two washeries with a capacity of 2.5 MT per year are under evaluation.

Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL) plans to set up total five coal washeries in the state of Odisha. One such coal washery is proposed to come up in an area of 29.94 hectare in Talcher district of Odisha.

Western Coalfields (WCL) plans to set up four coal washeries in Maharashtra. The company is looking forward to forge joint venture for the same.

Coal washeries operator having coal beneficiation capacity of 57.86 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), is planning to augment it to 82.40 MTPA by the end of fiscal 2015.
