Plans to set up steel downstream park which would host units for steel rolling and other mills for downstream steel products, forging units, beam welding plants, ferroalloy units, pipe manufacturing units, galvanizing and colour coating units, foundries as well as food processing and coal storage units. The park will come up at Parang in Angul district.

The company aims to achieve 6 MTPA steelmaking capacity at its Angul unit. The company has sought allotment of 1,000 acre of additional land. Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd (Ipicol) has done land assessment.

The Phase-I capacity of Angul steel making unit has touched 2.5 million tonne and aims to achieve its envisaged capacity of six million tonne at its by the end of 2015. The coal gasification plant at Angul has already started. JSPL plans to produce sponge iron soon using synthesis gas from its coal gasification plant. The plate mill unit is already commissioned at Angul. The company brings semi-finished steel products from its Raigarh plant in Chhattisgarh to produce steel plates at Angul.

Tata Power, NTPC, NHPC, Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL), Adani Power, Sterlite Inventure, JSW, CLP India, Larsen & Toubro have submitted their RFQ for the 4,000-MW ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Bedabahal. The bids will be scructinised soon. The project is likely to be awarded by the end of the current fiscal.
