Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) said it would develop its Odisha plant into the largest and greenest facility in the world. The High-Level Clearance Authority of Odisha, headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, had approved JSPLs proposal to expand the capacity of its steel plant to 25.2 MTPA at Angul by 2030. This would be the worlds largest and greenest single-location steel plant, thus pitching Odishas USP on the global steel map. The capacity expansion is expected to increase JSPLs investment in Odisha to more than Rs 1,25,000 crore from Rs 45,000 crore at present. This is also expected to generate enormous economic activity and employment opportunities in the state. The coal gasification route, also known as an environment-friendly technology, would be helpful in producing steel using indigenous coal, leading towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat, he said. Stating that this would reduce dependency on imported coal and save huge foreign reserves, Jindal said the coal gasification technology can also help India to overcome the perennial shortage of oil, gas, methanol, ammonia, and urea. Jindal Steel & Power Limited, through its CSR arm JSPL Foundation, will be setting up a multi-specialty hospital at Angul soon.

The steel producer plans to invest Rs. 18,000 crore to boost its Angul steel capacity to 12 million tonnes by 2023, with plans to increase it to 15mt by 2025. The expansion would be carried out through internal accruals. The company will take 30 months to commission the blast furnace.

The OP Jindal Group company plans to set up 2.25 MTPA integrated steel plant for manufacturing of TMT bars and wire rods, with an investment of Rs. 7,500 crore (excluding land cost) in the next four years, The state government has allotted 860 acres in Nellore district for this.

The firm’s subsidiary Jindal Power has been declared as the successful bidder for a block of Gare Palma coal mine in Chhattisgarh.

The company has bagged an order of 2,308 tonne head hardened rails of 1080 HH grade from the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation. These rails are used in high-speed freight corridors and metro rail projects.

JSPL has bagged an iron ore block in the ongoing auctions in Odisha with reserves of about 200 million tonne. The block, Guali mine, is spread over 365 hectares in the Keonjhar district. Securing iron ore linkages would help the company as JSPL looks to scale up its steel-making capacity.

The company has emerged as the highest bidder for Gare Palma IV/1 coal block in Chhattisgarh with a bid price of Rs 230 per tonne.

India has become the second largest producer of crude steel during 2018, improving upon its third largest global ranking in the year 2017.

JSPL subsidiary, Jindal Power Ltd, has bagged a 515 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) under Pilot Scheme-II from NHPC.
