Reliance Industries (RIL) is gearing up to set up captive offshore wind power projects with up to 5-megawatt (MW) capacity initially. The projects are likely to come up in Gujarat.

Goa Government announced the setting up of solar thermal plants at major government hospitals, financial assistance for purchase of electric vehicles, the setting up of a biomass briquetting plant and a feasibility study for establishing micro-hydro power projects across the state.

Patel Engineering is implementing hydroelectric power projects (HEP) worth around Rs 6,000 crore in four states along with a railway tunnel project in West Bengal. It will merge some of the subsidiaries with itself, which will help reduce operating costs and ensure synergies of operations.

The government has cleared eight hydropower projects of 144 MW on the Indus river and its tributaries in Ladakh, the highest in altitude so far. At present, there are several small projects with a collective capacity of 113 MW on the Indus in Ladakh, and the new projects will have much more capacity.

Bihar has launched a series of power projects worth Rs. 4,855.37 crore. Of this amount, Rs. 3,130.54 crore was spent on replacing rickety and old electrical wires in different parts of the state. The state has also promised prepaid meter to every consumer.

Contract packages amounting to Rs. 2240.27 crore have been signed with Patel Engineering Ltd for civil works package for the construction of diversion tunnel, concrete gravity dam, intake pressure shafts, underground powerhouse and tale race tunnels.

CVPPPL has signed a contract package amounting to Rs. 552.50 crore for execution of Electromechanical Works of Kiru HE Project with Andritz Hydro Pvt Ltd India. The contract will include supply, erection, testing and commissioning of E&M works.

Saudi Arabia’s Alfanar Group is looking to sell half of its wind power projects in India. The company has tasked JM Financial to find a buyer. In India, the Alfanar Group has a wind project portfolio of around 600 MW that it won in auctions conducted by state-run Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) plans to invest more than Rs.17,000 crore for its thermal power projects and has embarked upon an afforestation programme inside and outside the coal mining area in Odisha.
