PNC Infratech established a wholly-owned subsidiary (WOS) business called “Varanasi-Kolkata Highway - Package II” as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) to carry out a project that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had approved. The BharatmalaPariyojana in Bihar is funding the construction of a greenfield, sixlane Varanasi-Ranchi-Kolkata highway.

The ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH) has set an internal target to build at least 45 km of roadways each day this year. At this rate, 16,000 km of roads will be built in a year, and it will be a record.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is working towards developing around 10,000 kilometres of Optic Fibre Cables (OFC) infrastructure across the country by 2024-25.

The Government of India is making roads valued at Rs 3 lakh crore in the North East to help eradicate poverty and reduce the suffering of the people. Nitin Gadkari, Union minister for roads, transport and highways, said road projects worth over Rs 25,000 crore are being implemented in Meghalaya.

The National Highways Infra Trust is looking to raise around Rs 7,500 crore to Rs 8,000 crore by monetising the next tranche of six road assets. The NHIT will take possession of roads including the Gwalior-Shivpuri (Madhya Pradesh) of length 125.38 km, Chichira-Kharagpur (West Bengal) of length 56.12 km, and Orai-Bara (Uttar Pradesh) of length 125.806 km by March.

Nitin Gadkari, Union road transport and highways minister, inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several projects in his home state Maharashtra.

The Asian Development Bank approved a $300 million loan to upgrade more than 300 km of state highways and major district roads in Assam, including six road sections in the state’s western, central, and southern regions. The project will expand state highways and major district roads from single lane to two lanes and introduce new climate- and disaster-resilient structures.

The Indian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed loan agreements totalling $1.22 billion for developing infrastructure in various Indian states. The agreements would cover projects for improving the power sector and highways in the north-eastern states.
