The Uttar Pradesh government outlined its plans for energy transition in the state, which will include building on existing renewable energy through bio fuel as well as solar energy. The state had recently announced a bio-fuel policy and a new solar energy policy is also in the pipeline.

The state energy department is planning to develop four more ‘day-ahead forecast models’ for wind and solar energy, market forecast, dispatch model, and frequency forecast.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed at Vidyut Bhavan for installation of solar energy plants at Banka and Jamui with a combined production capacity of 200 MW, and the two plants will be ready by December next year.

SECI has awarded a contract to the Tatas for setting up a 100MW solar project with battery energy storage system (BESS) at Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. The project will usethe large battery storage system to provide solar power during evening peak hours. The contract has been awarded to Tata Power Solar Systems Ltd.

The Power Development Department of Ladakh has signed a power purchase agreement with Solar Energy Corporation of India for buying 50 megawatts of DC solar power from the 50 MW solar project at Taru area in Leh, with battery storage being developed under Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP)-2015.

A solar power plant of 40 MW capacity power will be installed at the Hirakud Dam Reservoir in Odishas Sambalpur district by the Solar Energy Corporation of India, which is under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Floating panels, mounted on a structure that floats on a water body, will be installed to generate power.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is making a fresh attempt to exploit the potential of solar energy at its properties by partnering with private firms. The corporation had announced similar plans in Baiyappanahalli and Peenya depots but the project did not take off.
