Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other airport developers have targeted capital outlay of approximately Rs 91,000 crore in airport sector in the next five years for expansion and modification of existing terminals, new terminals and strengthening of runways, among other activities, according to the civil aviation ministry.

Providing an impetus to the civil aviation sector, 100 more airports would be developed by 2024 to support the Udaan scheme.

The Government of Bihar has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Civil Aviation Ministry to develop a network of all six regional airports of Bihar in Bihta, Gaya, Purnia, Raxaul, Darbhanga, and Muzaffarpur.

Puducherry airport remains underutilised till date despite having modern facilities. To give fillip to the tourism sector and attract industrial investment in the Union Territory, the Puducherry government, Civil Aviation Ministry and Airports Authority of India have signed a Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding to operationalise the Puducherry airport in January 2017.

Kushinagar airport project is moving at a rapid pace. Land acquisition is complete. All clearances including the in-principle approval of the steering committee of Civil Aviation Ministry is in place.
