The power transmission network is planned to be expanded from 4,25,500 circuit km (existing as on May 31, 2020) to 4,54,200 circuit kilometre (ckm) by 2024-25 resulting in addition of nearly 28,700 ckm under Prime Minister's Gati Shakti Master Plan.

The Grid Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) will procure 400 MW low cost wind power through Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) from Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) connected wind power projects in Karnataka and Gujarat from 2024-25 fiscal for 25 years.

The new Norwegian Climate Investment Fund, managed by Norfund, together with KLP, Norway's largest pension company, made the first investment of Rs 900 million in an Indian transmission project in Karanatak being developed by ReNew Power.

The Government has taken several steps to promote renewable energy, including wind energy, in the country. These, inter alia, include; permitting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) up to 100 per cent under the automatic route, waiver of Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) charges for inter-State sale of solar and wind power for projects to be commissioned by June 30, 2025, declaration of trajectory for Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) up to the year 2030.

The government launched a plan for building a transmission system for evacuating 500 gigawatts (GW) of non-fossil based energy by 2030. The plan provides transmission service providers with investment opportunities of about Rs 2.44 lakh crore.

India plans to invest Rs 2.8 trillion by 2030 in setting up an Interstate Transmission Network (ISTS) to evacuate renewable energy, said K Sreekant, Chairman and Managing Director of government-owned Powergrid Corporation of India (PGCIL).

India is planning to invest Rs 1.4 lakh crore by 2026-27 in setting up interstate transmission network (ISTS) for evacuation of renewable energy and a similar number till 2030. Rs 1.4 lakh crore is by 2026-27, beyond that it is still to be developed.

Adani Transmission will continue to invest Rs 5,000 crore and upwards in this fiscal year and the next. The company will continue to invest Rs 5,000 crore upwards each year in the ATL portfolio.
