The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) is supporting 45 ferry service projects worth Rs 1,900 crore.

Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is financially supporting 45 Ro-Ro (roll-on-roll-off) ferry projects with total cost of Rs 1,900 crore. The ministry has operationalised Ro-Pax (roll-on-roll-off passenger) ferry service between Ghogha-Hazira in Gujarat and Mumbai- Mandwa in Maharashtra.

The Government of India has approved a project for the development of National Waterway-2 (river Brahamputra) at a cost of Rs 461 crore during 2020-21 to 2024-25.

A multi-crore inland waterway transport project would be developed across a 23 km stretch on Mizorams Khawthlangtuipui-Tuichawng rivers to cater to the needs of the southern districts. The centre has already sanctioned Rs 6.17 crore as first installment of the Rs 22.93 crore project.

The Centre has sanctioned over Rs 24 crore for dredging in Gomati, a transboundary river between India and Bangladesh, and setting up 10 jetties for a waterway project. . A permanent jetty would come up near Srimantapur Land Customs Sation in Sonamura with an estimated cost of Rs 5.04 crore.
