Industrial Entrepreneurs Memorandum (IEM) was filed with Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion on 13/04/2022 Electric Power Generation By Hydroelectric Power Plant.

Patel Engineering is implementing hydroelectric power projects (HEP) worth around Rs 6,000 crore in four states along with a railway tunnel project in West Bengal. It will merge some of the subsidiaries with itself, which will help reduce operating costs and ensure synergies of operations.

NHPC Ltd has indigenously renovated and modernised its 180 MW Baira Siul Power Station in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, and commenced commercial operations. Baira Siul was NHPC’s first power station and was under operation since 1982. Having completed its useful life, it has now been renewed.

The Union cabinet has approved an investment of Rs. 5281.94 crore for the 850 MW Ratle Hydroelectric Project on the Chenab river in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir by a new joint venture company to be incorporated between National Hydroelectric Power Corporation and Jammu & Kashmir State Power Development Corporation Ltd.

The company is in the process of building the largest hydroelectric projects with a capacity of 2,800 MW in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. The work is likely to start by October 2019. The completion is targeted in 4-5 years.

The company is implementing 111 MW Sawra-Kuddu hydroelectric project, run-of-the-river project, being constructed on river Pabber. Patel Engineering Ltd is the contractor.

The power sector major is setting up 500 MW Teesta VI hydropower project in Sikkim. So far only 30% of the job was completed by Lanco Teesta Hydro Power Ltd (LTHPL). Due to LTHPL insolvency, the project is assigned to NHPC, this would require new planning

60 MW Tuirial Hydroelectric Power Project was recently inaugurated in Mizoram. It is the first large hydropower project in the state of Mizoram. The huge reservoir is spread over an area of 45 sq km.

India is the seventh largest producer of hydroelectric power in the world. As of 30 April 2017, the installed utility-scale hydroelectric capacity in India was 44,594 MW, amounting to 13.5% of its total utility power generation capacity. Hydropower is one of the oldest sources of energy harnessed by mankind since thousand of years, initially to turn paddle wheels to help grind grain.
