The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has earmarked Rs 55,000 crore for investments in roads, expressways, and metro rail projects in the fiscal year (FY) 2023-24. In addition to the already existing seven wayside amenities (WSA) equipped with EV charging stations, the central government has provisioned for 137 more such facilities to be built on India’s national highways. NHAI is developing WSA across Highways and Expressways. Presently, seven WSA facilities are equipped with EV charging stations.

The central government is gearing up to start work on four greenfield expressways worth Rs 1 lakh crore, in the state of West Bengal. The projects have been designed to decongest the state capital, Kolkata and improve the logistics efficiency of the state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated the Purvanchal Expressway, a six-lane highway that establishes a direct link between the National Capital Region and eastern Uttar Pradesh almost up to the Bihar border. The infrastructure project cost an estimated Rs. 22,496 crore.

MoRTH will prepare a detailed project report for an elevated Ganga Link Expressway in Kanpur city, Uttar Pradesh. The proposed road corridor will be over a 30-km stretch on NH-34 which passes through the city and connects its interior areas with the Ganga Barrage. The project has been hanging fire since 2018.

Bharat Dynamics Ltd and Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for setting up a unit in the UP Defence Corridor. BDL will acquire 215 acres of land in Jhansi under a lease agreement for an initial period of 30 years, which will be extendable up to 90 years.

Around 69 per cent of the physical work of Bundelkhand expressway has been completed and 687 structures out of 818 along the expressway have been constructed. Construction work of all 14 long bridges on the expressway and four railway-over-bridges is progressing on schedule.
