SIG Group, an aseptic carton packaging solutions provider is planning to set up a manufacturing unit in India with an investment of 60 million euros.

SIG is considering a strategic investment in a new plant in India. The move will enhance SIG’s operations in the country, which is its one of its fastest-growing markets, the construction time for a new SIG packaging plant is 12 to 18 months.

Mold-Tek Packaging Ltd has inaugurated its 11th manufacturing plant at Unnao, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, admeasuring 17,500 sq ft with an installed capacity 1500 MTPA, mainly to cater to the plastic packaging containers requirement of Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd and other clients in the northern region.

Amid a global semiconductor shortage, work on India’s first semiconductor manufacturing unit is expected to begin in mid-2022. The government is working on a roadmap for an ecosystem for designing, manufacturing and packaging of semiconductor chips.

The company plans to establish a 50,000 sq ft plant for injection blow moulding packaging products near Hyderabad with an investment of Rs. 50 crore. Initially, it plans to have a 10,000 sq ft facility by April 2022 with an investment of Rs 10 crore. By 2024, it plans to invest an additional Rs. 40 crore to expand the facility.

Plans to set up a packaging material unit primarily for food processing, cosmetics, personal care and pharmaceuticals industries at an estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore. The company has sought 38 acres in the industrial park at Durgapur.

Plans to set up an advanced polyester film manufacturing facility in Telangana with a total investment of Rs. 1,350 crore. The implementation of the first phase, with a capital outlay of Rs. 500 crore, is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of the calendar year 2022.

A two-day virtual event on food processing, organised by the Embassy of Italy and the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), highlighted the potential of Italy’s expertise in the food processing and packaging sector and how India can benefit from it.
