The Rail Ministry has accorded in principle approval to Bansapani-Barbil rail line project for taking up pre-investment activities subject to 100 per cent funding by the Odisha government.The anticipated cost of the project is Rs. 1,584 crore.The project has been identified by Odisha Rail Infrastructure Development Ltd, a jointventure of the Odisha government and Railway Ministry, for development.

Survey for construction of a new line between Puri and Konark (33 km) has been completed and the cost of the project has been assessed as Rs. 725.78 crore. The survey report is being used for firming up the requirements and financial viability of the project, including the aspect of cost sharing with the Odisha government.

BMC has finally started work on acquiring land for expansion of drainage network in the Odisha capital. It will acquire 83 plots in the first phase to expand the major drains and connect the missing points of internal drains with major drainage channels, spending Rs. 110 crore for the purpose.

SCL has again sought six-month extension of the deadline to complete the two multi-level car parking projects at Saheed Nagar and Raj Mahal. The BSCL had earlier sought extension of the deadline from April to August 2021. The modern parking units will be ready by February 2022, as the project’s civil work will be completed by October.

The state proposes to build an international airport at the holy city of Puri, to be named Sri Jagannath International Airport. The state government has identified land for the airport and will proactively support all the activities required for establishing it, and has sought the cooperation of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry.

Tata Steel has installed a Long Pipe Conveyor at its opencast coal mines in the West Bokaro Division, the facility that will bring coal and by-products from the washeries to the Chainpur railway siding, replacing the existing ropeway transportation system.

To ensure proper management of wet waste, BMC is setting up a micro composting centre near Jharpada in the city. BMC plans to complete construction of 32 MCCs out of the proposed 43 by end of December. These centres can process up to five tonnes of wet waste a day.

OREDA has invited bids for a 10 MW solar power project, located in Junagarh block of Kalahandi district. The energy generated will be consumed by Konark town. Odisha’s department of energy would provide the land for the project. The project will reduce the carbon footprint to the extent of 20,000 tons per annum for 25 years.
