Six food processing projects were recently inaugurated in Maharashtra, Uttarakhand and Haryana, as the Ministry of Food Processing Industries celebrated Food Processing Week from 6 September to 12 September, under which the ministry organised various programmes as a part of the government’s ’Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

The Centre has announced the setting up of a mega food park at Motipur in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore. The MFP will be developed on 78 acres of land along the national highway. There will be 30 food-processing units inside the park.

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries has seen 46 food processing projects being completed or operationalised recently, including 3 mega food parks, 15 cold chains, 21 units, and seven food testing laboratories. Together, these created additional processing and preservation capacity of 31.52 lakh million tonnes per year.

A total of 32 projects has been sanctioned under the ‘Unit’ scheme of PMKSY under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

Gujarat Agro Infrastructure Mega Food Park was recently inaugurated at Shahu village in Mangrol taluka of Surat district spread over 70 acre. The food park is built with financial assistance from central and state governments.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing Mega Food Park Scheme across the country. The aims is to boost food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage.The first Mega Food Park has come up at Village Degaon, District Satara in the state of Maharashtra.

IOCL and Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation of Odisha (IDCO) are jointly setting up a Plastic Park at Paradip. The plastic park is likely to host downstream plastic processing industries.

Government of West Bengal plans to constuct a Food Park in the state. The West Bengal government has identified 61 acre of contiguous land for the proposed project.

Plans to set up food parks at Ludhiana and Kapurthala in the next 2 years
