The average demand for Power in Odisha ranges between 3,300 MW to 4,100 MW. The state is struggling to meet the soaring demand and is able to manage to procure 2,700 MW at the mostfrom various sources. The state government is pushing the Centre to fast track the process of setting up Ultra Mega Power at Bedabahal in Sundargarh district. The project is to be developed through two SPVs - Odisha Integrated Power Ltd and Odisha Infra Power Ltd. These companies are the subsidiaries of PFC. The state have already contributed Rs 350 crore as sought by the project proponents of the plant. The project progress is quite slow and is likely to hurt the demand-supply situation in the state.
