Uttar Pradesh Energy Department plans to increase the power transmission capacity of the power lines in the state. The department has asked the UP Transmission Corporation Ltd (UPTCL) to increase the total transmission capacity to over 7000 MW from the current 6000 MW in the next few months. To ease out congestion, high-power substations are already built. Three 400KV transmission substations have been made functional in Muzaffarnagar, Muradnagar and Agra. The ongoing projects include construction of two 400 KV substations - one in Banda and the other in Orai located in Bundelkhand region. Banda substation will be ready by October, 2016 while the one in Orai is likely to come up in couple of months.The upcoming projects include 400KV substations that have been planned in Lucknow and Allahabad.
