The Ministry of Water Resources, River Development Ganga Rejuvenation appointed NBCC in December, 2015 to carry out the feasibility study and conditional assessment of the river for entry-level activities in Bihar. NBCC aims to kickstart the Clean Ganga project in Bihar. The financial proposals for few projects is already approved by the Government. The engineering works are likely to commence soon. The project scope includes cleaning of debris, construction and modernisation of ghats, crematorium and toilets, repair and cleaning of the river surface. The village drainage system will also be set up to avoid direct discharge into the Ganga river.
