The Government of India has announced starting of work on developing 24 logistics park as part of Bharatmala programme across the country. This could result in reducing congestion and pollution on city roads as heavy vehicles will be restricted to logistic park and not enter the cities. Smaller trucks will provide feeder service from logistic park to the cities. The Centre plans to develop and widen 50,000 km of highways under Bharatmala programme. Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways has said, that the works on most of the projects will start by 2018-end. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Lucknow, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Pune, Nagpur and Amaravati are likely to benefit from these projects.
