Airports Authority of India (AAI) gears up to augment and develop the Rajamahendravaram airport in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Around 857 acre of land is acquired for the airport expansion project. The foundation stone was recently laid for the expansion of the Rajahmundry Airport which is renamed as Rajamahendravaram airport located at Madhurapudi. The expansion cost is estimated to be Rs 202 crore. The runway would be extended and the airport facilities would be upgraded as part of this project. Permanent structure would be completed for air cargo in a year. Cold storage units and warehouses would be built.
