Coimbatore city corporation plans to set up two grid connected solar power plants of one MW capacity each at Ukkadam and Kavundampalayam at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 crore. The solar panels will be set up on a 10-acre land. Tenders for the project was floated recently. The two units will produce 4,000 units each per day. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation have agreed to support the project. About 6,000-6,800 solar panels capable of producing 300-320 watts, will be installed.
